I write fast-moving thrillers shaped by real places, real politics, and the sea.

My first novel, The Colombian Exchange, grew from the true account of a Spanish treasure ship lost for four hundred years. Set on Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast during the Somoza dictatorship, it blends political history with high-stakes adventure.

My second novel, Dead Run, is a trans-Atlantic chase thriller — a bent solicitor, stolen money, a stolen yacht, and a relentless pursuit from England to the Caribbean.

I am currently completing Viva!, a full-blooded political thriller trilogy set once again in Central America — a story of revolution, divided loyalties, and a family caught on opposite sides of a civil war.

I was born in Aberdeen in 1951 and spent part of my childhood in Malaya, where my father was attached to the Malay Regiment. I was educated at Bedford School, trained in law at Guildford College of Law, and worked with an old-established firm of solicitors in Exeter.

In the 1980s I taught Law and Business Management to General Motors dealerships across the UK. By 1989 I had succumbed to the call of the sea, built a sixty-foot sailing boat, and in 1992 launched her in Plymouth.

My family and I spent the next two years sailing the Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Caribbean. To celebrate the millennium we sailed halfway around the world to Australia. During that voyage, the BBC documented our expedition up the Gambia River to deliver cataract lenses to a bush hospital for Sight Savers International, restoring sight to over two hundred villagers.

I now live in Australia and continue to write.
